The Alive! program and its predecessor (WIN) have been tested in two large studies, and have produced consistently significant improvements in diet and physical activity outcomes. The most recent study, a randomized controlled trial among employees at Kaiser Permanente in Northern California, resulted in significant improvements in intake of saturated fat, trans fats, added sugars, fruits and vegetables, number of minutes per week spent doing moderate and vigorous activities, and walking. Alive also produced improvements in self-assessed health status and health-related quality of life (using the SF-8 Health Survey questions), and in presenteeism, stage of change, and self-efficacy.
